aws e308 16 Stainless Electrodes - All-Position, Low Spatter

If you spend time in food plants, marine repair yards, or literally anywhere 304 stainless gets abused, you already know why E308-16 stays in every foreman’s cart. The A102 titanium-calcium coating on these stainless electrodes gives that smooth, forgiving arc many customers say they can “feel” even through a thick glove. To be honest, I didn’t expect the slag to lift this cleanly the first time I ran it on an older AC machine—pleasant surprise.
Stainless maintenance is growing—food-grade retrofits, hygienic piping, and coastal fabrication. Shops want electrodes that run on AC or DCEP, cope with less-than-perfect prep, and still resist corrosion. E308-16 checks those boxes. There’s also a mini-shift to “easier-to-train” consumables: stable arc, low spatter, and easy slag. This rod fits that real-world requirement.
Jinlong’s stainless stick is positioned as a universal E308-16. The coating is A102 (titanium calcium), aimed at arc stability, pretty bead shape, low spatter, and solid anti-porosity. In fact, it’s designed for 18/8 stainless (304/304L) and similar grades.
| Classification | AWS A5.4 / SFA-5.4 E308-16; ISO 3581-A ≈ E 19 9 R (real-world equivalence may vary) |
| Diameters | 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm |
| Coating | A102 titanium-calcium (rutile type) |
| Current/Polarity | AC or DCEP (preferred); keep arc short |
| Typical Deposit Chemistry | C ≤0.08; Cr 18–21%; Ni 9–11%; Mn 0.5–2.5%; Si 0.3–1.0% (≈ values) |
| Mechanical Properties | UTS ≈ 550 MPa; YS ≈ 420 MPa; Elong ≥30%; FN ≈ 3–10 |
| Approvals/Certs | Conforms to AWS A5.4; suitable for work under AWS D1.6; factory QC to ISO 9001 (check vendor lot certs) |
| Commercials | FOB US $0.5–9,999 / piece; MOQ 100 pcs; supply ≈ 10,000 pcs/month (Origin: Dingzhou, Hebei, China) |
Aws E308 16 tends to run best with minimal weaving, 2–3 mm arc length, and interpass under 150°C. No preheat for austenitic stainless; dry electrodes at about 300°C for 1 h if moisture is suspected.
Materials: 304/304L base metals (ASTM A240). Methods: AC/DCEP SMAW, short arc, stringer beads. Testing: per AWS A5.4—tension, bend, chemistry; production welds verified using visual inspection, dye penetrant (ASTM E165), and where specified, ferrite check (WRC-1992 FN). Service life: in mildly to moderately corrosive media (food washdowns, coastal air), welds typically match parent 304 performance; chloride-rich splash zones still call for 316L (just saying).
